About the author:

Simon Ottenberg was an emeritus professor at the University of Washington. While his academic background is in African art and anthropology, he developed a passion for Native Northwest Coast art while living more than 50 years in Seattle. He met Ron Hilbert in 1982 and became friends; they remained close until Ron’s death in 2006. He compiled the artist’s biography with the help of many who knew him.
