Kit Bakke at Folio: The Seattle Athenaeum

May 8, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

After a 1970 protest at Seattle’s downtown federal building turned violent, authorities arrested seven Seattle Liberation Front members–including a University of Washington professor and students. They faced federal conspiracy and intent to riot indictments, but the real issue was Americans’ freedom to organize and protest. Kit Bakke, author of Protest on Trial: The Seattle 7 Conspiracy, will discuss the chaotic trial, surprising tactics used by the FBI and judicial system, what it meant for the young activists, and why it still matters.

Folio is a gathering place for books and the people who love them. Devoted to the intellectually curious, Folio offers circulating collections, vibrant conversations, innovative cultural and civic programs, and work spaces for writers. Come to Folio for an hour or a day.
